Walking into the Palace Theatre tonight, I felt a sense of sadness that this iconic and marvellous Melbourne treasure was hosting just one last batch of gigs before demolition.
How could this be? How could we let overseas developers do this to this incredible venue?
Sadness turned to anger and then I decided I would try and enjoy every gig I have to shoot in this place until the inevitable happens.
On tonight’s bill, two pretty bombastic acts that were sure to do all sort of nasty things to the rafters and very foundations of the Palace.
Pantera’s Rex Brown new band, Kill Devil Hill took hold first up and put in a pretty impressive set led by the very charismatic lead crooner, Dewey Bragg. He commanded the stage and audience like a seasoned pro and that ensured that my first sighting of Kill Devil Hill was a damn exciting one.
And it was a total blast being able to see headliners Killswitch Engage with original frontman Jesse Leach. I had seen Killswitch before a few times with Howard Jones. They were amazing then, they were even better now. Jesse just typifies the Killswitch sound and tonight, he and the rest of the crew were on fire!
Damn fun night! It always is when Killswitch Engage are in town!
