Rowland S. Howard Live @ The Prince Bandroom, Melbourne, Australia

Pop Crimes

Bit of an impromptu gig tonight. My girlfriend happens to be a very big fan of Rowland S. Howard. So much so when we bumped into Rowland at the Nick Cave exhibition a year or so ago, he knew her by name. I recently bought her Rowland’s new album Pop Crimes for her birthday – but tonight, she bought us tickets for tonight’s album launch gig at the Prince Bandroom.

To be perfectly frank, I really don’t know a thing about Rowland or his music… and as is evident by this website, I kinda focus more on the harder edged music scene – but, I figured it would be a good night out to see and experience something musically different.

Of course, the camera was in tow and I wasn’t sure if I would be allowed in with it, but it proved to be no problem. The venue was indeed packed as we only arrived about 15 minutes before Rowland’s set. We managed to get as close to the front as possible, and I figured I would try and get some photos whilst I was there.

Let me state from the outset, it was quite refreshing to not be at a Metal gig where everyone on stage is running around like headless chooks after an execution. Still, with limited lighting and being scrunched within a pack of people – it was still a challenge to get any sort of decent photo.

Turned out to be an enjoyable show nonetheless and gave me a new appreciation for Rowland and his song-crafting abilities.
