Killed By Death!
With Melbourne sweltering under this premature summer that has been thrust our way and collectively frying our brains- the last place on Earth I wanted to be was in a dingy hotel full of maniacal sweaty Death Metal headbangers.
Having said that, I knew I was going to be in for one helluva night when there was no designated photo-pit cordoned off. If I was to get any shots, I was gonna have to contend with the inevitable mosh-pit and flying bodies. Trust me folks, that ain’t fun!
As soon as Obituary hit the stage, bodies were flying. I copped an almighty shove and barely stayed on my feet. Ugh! But I clinged onto the camera for dear life! I didn’t need this and it was at this point where I was thinking about the cool confines of home, kicking back with a brew and mindlessly watching some teevee! But no, I had to be wrestling with ferocious Metalheads instead getting shoved from pillar to post and having my brain turn to mush by the sheer ferocity and intensity of Obituary on stage.
It all turned out to be one of the most difficult shoots I have ever done. Compounded by the fact that there was all of 2 colored lights on at all time… ladies and gentelmen, here is the color pink and here is green. Work with that and show me what you can come up with. The dimly lit stage was a shocker!
As expected, tonight’s shots were dross. Probably the worst I have shot in a long, long time.
Example of the ‘lighting’ on offer throughout the band’s set…
I also shot in sRAW2 tonight not realizing that my software (Aperture) can’t handle the output files. So, to even see the crap I shot – I had to download a Photoshop plugin to then convert the images to a readable format.
Sorry folks. I’m really embarrassed about tonight’s effort. This was, the worst shoot ever… Bad fucking night all round.
One to file away and hopefully, learn from.

Ur hard on urself dood, the photos are not that bad at all.
