My name is Ben and I’m an Aussie living in South Korea. I just saw your photos of the recent Opeth show in Melbourne and I was really impressed. I don’t normally contact music photographers to lavish praise upon their work, simply because often it’s not warranted, but your work was exceptional!

It would’ve been great to have seen the show actually, as I saw them last year in Melbourne and was really impressed. It was simply hypnotic at times and your images reminded me of that show and how easy it was to be immersed in their brilliant music.

And, from memory, they played “Master’s Apprentices” on that occasion in ‘08 – my only criticism of the show was the ending. “The Drapery Falls” just wasn’t epic enough for my liking. “Blackwater Park” or even “Hex Omega” would’ve been the perfect finale for me, but it wasn’t to be…

I’m really intrigued as to how you went about shooting the recent show though. What gear did you use? I couldn’t see any discernible noise in any of your images. The clarity was exceptional. Are you able to tell me what ISO speed you shoot at for indoor scenes like metal shows?

I’m just an amateur photographer myself, but I am always keen to learn a bit more about the craft. When I see images like yours though, I just go “wow!”

I use a Canon 30D, but it has many limitations. I’m thinking of upgrading to the recently released 7D. The HD video functionality would be handy, as I currently have to use a separate video camera for moving images and that can be a real pain.

Anyway, well done, I really admire your work.

Opeth is a fantastic band. And the guys are just so down-to earth. I really like their attitude. Opeth is cult in Sweden. That’s how amazing they are…..
