Celebrate World Goth Day In Style

I have photographed a number of events for Rachael Black and crew. Most can be seen throughout these pages and most, nay, all – are always a ton of fun.

When I was asked if I would like to be involved in this years World Goth Day celebrations and photograph the fashion show, I jumped at the chance. There are always wonderful photo opportunities and a chance to mingle and mangle with some cool peeps that inhabit the dark side of life. Heck, that makes me feel right at home.

Miss & Mr Alternative Victorian Heat 2012

Where The Serpents Ever Dwell

Miss & Mr Alternative bills itself as ‘Australia’s Most Exciting Alternative Model Competition’ and this is certainly a title it clearly lives up to.

I was honoured to be asked to be one of the official photographers for the event so I was keenly anticipating the night for a few weeks even if I have had an incredibly busy past few days shooting a slab of gigs. Still, when an opportunity presents itself, one should jump at the chance without a moment’s hesitation!

Circa Nocturna 2011

Things That Go Bump In The Night

Circa Nocturna is always an exciting time of the year. It brands itself as Melbourne’s Premier Alternative Fashion Parade and it lives up to this image of itself time and time again.

Each and every year, Circa Nocturna allows some of the country’s sub-culture designers shine and sparkle on the catwalk of the pristine and beautiful Fitzroy Town Hall.

The Rites Of Passage Festival

Tattoo You!

Under a burning Melbourne sun that seemed to scorch all in its path this weekend, I attended the Rites of Passage Festival at the Royal Exhibition Building.

From the get go, the event was beautifully organised and there was an incredibly vast bill of all sorts of entertainment, fashion, art, culture, characters and of course – a lot of tattoos!

Check out some of the photos from the event.

Where The Wild Things Are

Having attended the past two Circa Nocturna events in 2009 and 2008, I was eagerly awaiting for this year’s gala to arrive and this time, shooting on an official capacity. The past couple of years I have only been in the audience with my camera and have had restricted view etc. It was hard to get a decent shot.

This year, I was granted an official pass and boy, was it a ton of fun shooting at this amazing event.

Wicked Game

It’s always a treat getting to shoot a band you absolutely adore! Having been a huge H.I.M fan for quite a few years now, I was greatly anticipating the opportunity to photograph these guys.

Which is saying something. Earlier in the day I won a pass to go and see the incredible Faith No More but I surrendered that ticket to my cousin. Couple that with the fact that also, Meshuggah were doing a show elsewhere – I decided to stick with Ville and the boys and finally get to photograph this truly incredible band.

Count In Fives

I feel like a dog chasing its very own tail at times. The chase for a photo-pass to the Horrors’ Corner Hotel gig came down to the wire – and very well never materialized!

On the actual day of the gig, I thought I wasn’t going to be able to shoot these guys as no official confirmation had been forthcoming so it was an anxious day as I waited for my Inbox to sound that old familiar chime – and for confirmation to arrive.

Marilyn Manson Live @ Festival Hall, Melbourne, Australia

3 Minutes, 1 Song, & 1 Spilt Beer

Back in 1996, I was as big a Marilyn Manson fan as you could get. The band, having signed to Trent Reznor’s label ‘Nothing Records’ – had released a couple of classic albums, ‘Portrait of An American Family’ and the magnificent ‘Antichrist Superstar’. A couple of records I played to death. Matter of fact, I still listen to them today.
